Online chess lessons for beginners4/8/2024 ![]() During my time working with him, my rating rose nearly 200 ratings points to its highest point and I achieved the IM title." Alex not only has a great knowledge of chess, but is also an excellent teacher of all aspects of the game. "I worked with Alex for a few years and it was a great pleasure. I cannot recommend him and highly enough for any player serious about improving his or her game." I am continually amazed by his tremendous insight, individual approach, and mentorship. He has transformed me from a beginner 1400 player into a 2400 FIDE Master. "I first began studying with GM Alex Stripunsky 6 years ago. Stripunsky has helped me tie for fouth at the 2017 World Cadets, earn my WFM title, tie for first at the 2019 North American Junior Championships, increase my rating hundreds of points, all the while fostering my love and passion for the game I can wholeheartedly say that he is the best chess coach I have ever had." "I began working with Alex Stripunsky in 2017, and ever since, I have felt my overall feeling for the game improve immensely. Without Matan Prilleltensky, I would not have become New York City elementary and junior high chess champion, and a chess national master at the age of twelve. Matan inspired and encouraged me to higher levels of chess with passion and enthusiasm. Together, we won the city, state and national scholastic chess championships for the following years. After one year of learning with Matan, I qualified for and competed at the World Cadet Chess Championship in South Africa. “Matan Prilleltensky was instrumental in my chess life. It is clear that having the right teacher to lay down a solid foundation is crucial.” We are particularly grateful to Matan because he is an expert in teaching kids with little prior experience. As a result, under Matan's coaching, Arvin made significant progress in a relatively short period of time. Matan also spent time going through Arvin's recent games and came to each class well prepared with clear goals in mind. Matan customized the curriculum for Arvin to address his specific strengths and weaknesses. He had full controls of what a lesson is to cover: how many minutes for a new opening, how long to go through key points in a model game, and what are left for questions, etc. ![]() He prepared the lesson material ahead of time, and stayed in the lesson plan. We are most impressed by Matan's masterful teaching skills, great enthusiasm and complete dedication. Matan taught him step by step all the skills to master chess. His most memorable moment was a convincing win against Jay Bonin, legendary International Master at Marshall Chess Club. Arvin started playing chess in 3rd grade and became a serious chess player after working with Matan. There are 64 squares on a chessboard and a row of squares on a vertical line is called a file.“Our son Arvin worked with Matan for more than 3 years. In a moment I will show you how the chess pieces are allowed to move, but first there are a few important things you need to know about the chessboard. But, of course, it’s not easy to trap your opponent’s king because they won’t simply allow you to do so. As soon as you manage to trap your opponent’s king, it would be called checkmate, and you would be the winner. The purpose of the game was to capture as many as possible of your opponent’s pieces and then to eventually trap their king. The first team would be named white and the other team black. Each player received 16 chessmen which would be referred to as the pieces. The game that the king’s advisors invented would be played between two people and the person you played against would be your opponent. The king’s idea was that, by playing this game, his soldiers wouldn’t only be strong, but they would become smart too. Well, nobody actually knows, but there is an old legend that chess was played more than 1500 years ago when an Indian king asked his soldiers to invent a game that represented a war. In this course I will teach you how to play chess, I will show you how the pieces move and I’ll explain what you need to do if you want to win the game. But before I continue, maybe you are wondering how chess started. Did you know chess is the most popular board game in the world? A recent study found that, worldwide, more than 600 million people play chess regularly.
